yeah, i came across that the other day too. kind of a cool idea, but pretty hallmarkey in the execution. like you said, i'm not sure how it's logistically gonna work. we tend to think of digital storage as more permanent because bits don't decay... but in some ways it's a lot more ephemeral. the internet, after all, doesn't really exist.

at one point, I attempted to undertake a similar mapping of relationships thing--specifically using graphical methods of representing the "strength" of a bond
Edward Tufte definitely throws down some sick words on "beautiful" representation of data, well worth a read (any of his books)

Is this supposed to be a stencil? Cuz it would make a really good one. I like how you arbitrarily cut up the letterforms - I assume that's with Illustrator. Nice job man.

that's lookin' nice... i like the subtle variations in exposure between frames. it might be interesting to see the same animation a little more abstracted with some photoshopping... or did you intentionally leave it au natural?

We were doing this scene at improv rehearsal the other night about this kid who was a 10 year old genius map-maker at map camp. He was talking about how he was going to draw all these mermaids into his map. "I'm going to combine art and cartography, and it's going to a radical new art form... cart...ography."

Adam-
yo the coloring book stuff is looking nice. I am messing around in Illustrator as I type here, trying some of those pen tool line-art basics you showed me. Don't think I'll have anything to show for our meeting today, but I'm getting it more now, its good.
I have used manual tracing in many past art projects (non-digital) and I think this will be a powerful tool to get incorported with that.

as for project ideas, I will post up here some that I have had, and been jotting down in my Stickies:
mini printing press
woodblock carving
slideshow (slides)
appropriated media
video manipulation
stencil set, cut from laser cutter (illustrator tutorial)
animations

these will require some explanation which I will do in meeting today, but there is some definite overlap, especially with the stencils and slides.
